DAA Welcomes SIPTU Decision To Enter Talks

March 30, 2009

The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) welcomes SIPTU’s announcement to call off its planned strike action on Thursday, April 2 at Dublin, Cork and Shannon Airports and attend talks at the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) on the issue of increments.

The DAA is disappointed that the local SIPTU branch decided to wait until 4pm on Monday to make this decision, given that the company had made it clear that it had accepted the LRC invitation last Friday. SIPTU’s decision to wait a further three days caused unnecessary distress and, in many cases, additional expense for the travelling public. The uncertainty created by this delay is not what the Irish economy needs at this time.

At no point has the DAA stated that the increments will not be paid. Increment payments are normally made in the middle of April and backdated. The company has told staff that it is pausing the payment of any salary increases pending the outcome of a cost recovery programme.
